Flowing through the
forests of the Southern Indiana Hill Country, the Blue River is the
most spring fed of all Indiana's streams. The many springs account
for the aqua-blue color of the river, leading to the name "The
Blue". In many areas limestone bluffs, dotted with cave entrances,
tower above the river attesting to the fact that "The Blue" flows
through the heart of Indiana's Cave Country. The river valley is
noted for its abundant wildlife, natural beauty, and excellent
fishing.
In recognition of its great natural values, the
Blue River was the first river selected for inclusion in Indiana's
Natural and Scenic Rivers System. Regardless of your ability, Cave
Country Canoes has a Blue River trip
to fit the needs of your family or friends.
We are opening a 2nd base on State Road 66, to
service the lower sections of the river just 1.7 miles south of I-64
at Exit 92 near Leavenworth. We have been running some trips
on the lower river for years, but our new base will allow shorter
trips to and from the access sites and easy interstate access for
our guests. Our Milltown headquarters will operate just as in
the past, but now guests will have more choice and the river will be
less crowded on busy days. We think paddlers who have visited
us in the past will appreciate the additional options. Be sure
to review our river map for all our trip options and the location of
our new Leavenworth base.
Be sure to check out our new departure
times. |
